Welcome to the Nurse Directors Association
The Nurse Directors Association (NDA) is an independent organisation with membership open to all Nurse Directors and Senior Nurses working in NHS organisations, and equivalent posts in the Armed Forces, Independent Sector, voluntary and charitable organisations in the UK.
The predecessor organisation, the Trust Nurses Association (TNA) functioned
as a voluntary network. It had been established originally to provide
peer support to Executive Nurse Directors in the early 1990’s, when
NHS Trusts were first set up. This has been succeeded by NDA set up and
launched as a membership organisation in May 2002 in London and York.
The organisation is led by Dame Jill Ellison DBE, Nursing Director, Heart
of England NHS Foundation Trust supported by 12 Council members and an
Executive Officer, Anne McPherson.
The purpose of the Association is to:
- Facilitate the development of existing and future nurse leaders in order to maximise their contribution in modernising healthcare and the professions in the care sectors for the benefit of patients and carers;
- Influence the formulation and implementation of the nations Health and Social Care policies, including academic and regulatory;
- Open and lead debate on current issues as they affect nursing in the delivery of health and social care;
- Provide confidential, objective, non attributable peer support;
- Support, facilitate and enable the future of effective nurse leadership;
- Provide a voice on behalf of members to influence policy and decision making in health and Social Care at local, health community, national and international level.
